Chester-le-Street
is a market town in County Durham, about 7 miles North of Durham
City. The town has strong links to Durham City in that for a period
of time the remains of St. Cuthbert rested here, and for many years
the town was the 'capital' of the land from the Tees to the Tweed,
and from coast to coast. The original Bishop's Throne can still
be found in the Parish
Church of St. Mary and St. Cuthbert.
When Durham County became the latest
county to be a major County Cricket side, the site of their new
ground was at Riverside, Chester-le-Street. This is an impressive
new ground with the matching impressive background of Lumley Castle,
an 11th century castle, now a top class hotel.
